Cookies are simple text files typically 100-200 bytes in file size. Cookies contain data or session information about a user who has visited a Web server. When a user connects to web site information about the client and server are encoded into the cookie and are stored on the web server and client directory.
Cookies can be thought of a customer service for a web site. They help automate processes such as log-on or filling out forms. User preferences to the site are also stored and maintained.
Because the data contained in a cookie may reveal personal information about you or your system, and it is possible for those who collect this information to use it indiscriminately, it is advisable to set the proper security controls on your browser software when on the web.
Check the help files on your browser for information about accessing cookies, history, and the cache.
